What’s Soft Dorsal Splinting?

Soft Dorsal Splinting helps to maintain/encourage extension of fingers while allowing flexion when required. The splinting sits under a layer of soft fabric for a smooth finish on the dorsal aspect. You may choose the position of a zipper closure for ease of donning and doffing.

The splinting may be applied to selected fingers or all fingers including the thumb. As illustrated here, this is very useful for patients with an ulnar deviation to gently encourage the fingers to sit in a more neutral position.

UPF Tex is used for the palmar aspect as it is a soft fabric that will not hinder movement in the fingers on the palm. 1mm Neoprene may be used instead on the palmar aspect for warmth and protection.
